If you’ve been blessed with two little darlings instead of one, chances are you’ve already mulled over an age-old debate in your head: Do I dress them the same or differently? This is of course a personal preference with no right or wrong answer. There seem to be pros and cons to both that divide opinions! Here at Strawberry Children, we’ve mulled over some of the benefits of both choices:
It’s convenient – You won’t have to stress over buying so many different outfits for your precious little twins. Also, when it comes to dressing them of a morning all you have to do is pick out the one outfit – this choice is a lot harder than it seems, and so having to make it twice can be time consuming.
You’ll get some recognition – There’s something about twins dressed the same that makes everyone’s hearts melt. You’ll become somewhat of a local celebrity if you take your kids to the supermarket sporting super cute matching outfits.
No arguments – Children are literally obsessed with fairness. If you start putting them in different outfits, then it opens the door to possible tantrums about who gets to wear what. If everyone is wearing the same attire then you’re one step ahead of the game.
Take advantage of sales – If you spot a sale, you can really make the most of it and buy the same outfit twice. We currently have a sale on our Armani Baby range that would be perfect to kit out your little ones in.
It’s cost effective – Buying two of every outfit can weigh heavy on the bank account. When you buy them different outfits, they can mix and match and share the same wardrobe too, which is a huge bonus until they stop sharing the same measurements. Read our tips on how to organise your child’s outgrown clothes.
It gives them an identity – When they grow up, they’re going to want to become their own person, so why not give them that responsibility from an early age? Just because they were born on the same day doesn’t mean they’re going to like the same things.
You can tell them apart easier – Every parent of twins says that they can tell them apart easily, but if we’re being honest, it’s so easy to be caught out. Sometimes it’s essential to be able to tell who’s who, like when it comes to giving medication for example, and dressing them differently will help this.
Less awkward conversations with strangers – Having twins increases the chances of people you don’t know coming up to you and making small talk about them. Pretty much harmless, but if you’re in a rush you’re not going to want to go through this, especially with someone you don’t know!
There’s always one surefire way to settle this: ask the twins what they want to do. It’s their choice at the end of the day and letting them make decisions like this early puts them on the road to self-discovery. Just keep your fingers crossed that you don’t get one vote for same and other for different…
